The importance of quality Inkjet Ink

Contrary to what you may think, inkjet ink used in printers are very complex formulas developed by different printer manufacturers to ensure more vivd colors as well as longevity.

One terrible weakness of Inkjet Printers was the ink it used. Inkjet ink is a water based ink complemented by various chemicals to give it better color or better resistance to fading and smearing. The reason for not switching to oil based inks is because of the high degree of maintenance it would add to the hardware. Thus, companies strive to create the perfect inkjet ink formula that would be compatible with the widest range of media and provide the brightest colors.

Most inkjet inks can be divided into two categories, dye-based inks and pigment-based inks. For the most part, dye-based ink is used for color cartridges and pigment-based inkjet ink is used for black cartridges. The reason for this is because dye-based inks offer a wider range of color and pigment-based inks are more resistant to fading and water. Pigment-based inkjet ink molecules are much larger than dye-based ink molecules and consequently break down much slower. This allows for greater resistance to UV rays and water damage. Thus, the current trend for inkjet ink is to develop pigment-based ink for all applications.

With the continuing development of inkjet ink, the reasons to opt for an inkjet printer are increasing and becoming more logical.
