Brother inkjet cartridges, manufactured by Brother Inc., untilze the peizo-electric method of inkjet printing. Peizo-electric inkjet technology uses a peizo crystal at the back of the ink reservoir. Electricity is then applied to the crystals in order to create a vibration and release a drop of ink. Unlike the thermal method, this method does not affect the ink in any way, providing more flexibility in the formula and manufacture of the ink.

Brother Inc. first began doing business producing sewing machines in Japan. In 1908, the Yasui Sewing Machine Company was established and the first Brother sewing machines were produced. By 1961, Brother extended their ventures into portable typewriters and in 1962, adopted the current Brother name. It wasn't until the 70's that Brother would enter the printer business and it would take another 20 years before they would begin to produce Inkjet Printers. However, Brother has always strived to develop the latest technology whether it be in textile manufacture or printing. Today, Brother Inc is one of the largest manufacturers of office equipment and industrial sewing machines.
